New Brazilian Law 12 318 defines and punishes parental alienation

On the 26th of August 2010 the Brazilian Parliament has ratified with immediate effect a law against parental alienation. The law defines parental alienation as a form of child abuse. It provides Brazilian judges and courts with seven measures to deal with parental alienation. Amongst those are fines, contrary custody and/or care and residence decisions and care supervision orders.

Study: PTSD Survivors' Children May Have Genetic Scars

Over the years, a large body of work has been devoted to studying PTSD symptoms in second-generation survivors, and it has found signs of the condition in their behavior and even their blood - with higher levels of the stress hormone cortisol, for example. The assumption - a perfectly reasonable one - was always that these symptoms were essentially learned.
Now a new paper adds another dimension to the science, suggesting that it's not just a second generation's emotional profile that can be affected by a parent's trauma; it may be their genes too.

Judge Orders Jail Time In Divorce Case

The judge said the following in his decision: The extensive record is replete with instances of attempts to undermine the relationship between the children and their father and replace him with her new husband, manipulation of defendant's parenting access, utter and unfettered vilification of the defendant to the children, false reporting of sexual misconduct without any semblance of 'good faith,' and her imposition upon the children to fear her tirades and punishment if they embrace the relationship they want to have with their father."

The following is particularly interesting:
"As for the unusual sentence, ... the judge had no alternative as the custody battle and the violation of the court order went on for several years."
What a difference to Germany, where proceedings often last until the children come of age and /or the alienation has become so important that, in many cases, the contact to their parents is lost forever. The ECHR will then allocate a "just compensation" of 7.000 € - less than 2 € per day of a spoilt life!
