The study’s main takeaway, according to Regnerus, is that kids of gay parents have turned out differently from kids of straight parents, and not in a good way. I’m sure that conclusion will please the study’s conservative sponsors. But the methodology and findings, coupled with previous research, point to deeper differences that transcend orientation. Kids do better when they have two committed parents, a biological connection, and a stable home. If that’s good advice for straights, it’s good advice for gays, too.

Separated parents who fail to allow their partners to maintain a proper relationship with their children could be stripped of driving licences or passports, hit with curfews, ordered to do a period of unpaid work or even jailed.

Ministers have decided reform is necessary in the light of heartbreaking evidence that one in five children from a broken home loses touch with the parent that leaves the family home within just three years and never sees them again.

European Commission Vice-President Viviane Reding, the EU's Justice Commissioner said: "The International Day of Missing Children is essential to draw attention to the plight of all missing children and their loved ones. As every year, the European Commission is supporting the International Day to make sure we remember children who have gone missing, today and on every other day of the year. As families and children travel more and more within the European Union, we need phone numbers that are known by everyone and are the same whether you are calling from your home in Austria or your holiday destination in Spain."

Top judge says mothers should have children taken away if they don't let fathers see them

Mothers who refuse to let separated fathers see their children should have them taken away, a senior family court judge said yesterday.

The children should be handed over to the full time care of the father if the mother persistently defies court orders, Mr Justice Coleridge said.

The judge said that family courts are losing their authority because so many people take no notice of their judgments.

He added that occasionally it might be necessary to send a mother to jail.

Council Of Europe Discusses Report On Full Protection Of The Victims Of Abuse
In the session of September 20, 2010 the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe has discussed the report on full protection for victims of abuse (Doc. 12358).

The essential recommendations to the national legislators are:
  • to assimilate sexual, physical and emotional abuse,
  • to prevent, prosecute and punish all types of child abuse ex officio.
